What is a Network cable?

A network cable is a conduit for information, consisting of a core to carry the signal, and some kind of outer layer to shield and protect it. A network cable carries data between machines. There are many historical forms of network cable, but only a few are in common use today; see ethernet cable, coaxial cable, optical cable.
