Most broadband providers take their wider corporate responsibilities seriously.
BT, for example, has been ranked top telecommunications company in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for several years running. Here are just a few examples of BT's programme of activities:
investing in the community - in the year to December 2006, BT raised £1.8million for ChildLine, £142,000 for the NSPCC and £200,000 for Children in Need
supporting digital inclusion - through projects such as BT Community Connections, awarding PCs to community groups across the UK
reducing its carbon footprint - using broadband, 80% of BT staff work flexibly some or all of the time and this, plus their conferencing technology, reduces the need to travel
reducing resource consumption - BT has won the resource conservation category at the 2007 Sustainable City Awards, organised by the City of London Corporation
promoting diversity at work - BT believes engineering ‘is not just for blokes', and is launching a campaign to attract more women engineers
