How does Broadband work

There are four main types of broadband available: ADSL, cable, wireless and satellite. All forms of broadband use a higher bandwidth than dial-up, which means that more data can be carried at a faster speed.

ADSL uses existing telephone networks -

ADSL broadband uses the same cables that connect telephones to local exchanges, but the telephone connection point is modified. A phone socket filter is added to convert the phone line into two separate signals for:
  • internet access
  • normal telephone service

  • This means you can use the phone and the internet at the same time on the same line.
