What is a Hotspot?
To say that one is at or in a hotspot means that one is within range of a Wi-fi relay station, in the same way that you can be in or out of range of a mobile phone mast. If you are at a hotspot, then in theory you can connect a Wi-fi enabled device, such as a laptop, to the network. In practice, this will depend on the rules and/or pricing allowing access to that particular network. Hotspots are formally called wireless access points.Sign up for BT Total Broadband
