What is a Wireless Access Point?

To say that one is at a Wireless Access Point means that one is within range of a Wi-fi relay station or wireless router, in the same way that you can be in or out of range of a mobile phone mast. If you are at a wireless access point, then in theory you can connect a Wi-fi enabled device, such as a laptop, to the network. In practice, this will depend on the rules and/or pricing allowing access to that particular wireless network. Wireless access points are often called 'hotspots'.
