What is Wi-fi?
Wi-fi is a standard technology for implementing Local Area Networks. A Wi-fi network is an Ethernet network; but with the connecting cables replaced by a microwave-based transmission system (similar to the way mobile phones work). The great advantage of Wi-fi over traditional Ethernet is of course the lack of cabling. However, this can make it more vulnerable to attack by intruders. Wi-fi is defined in IEEE standard 802.11.
