What is Ethernet?
Ethernet is a standard protocol for building Local Area Networks; that is, a group of two or more connected computers (and shared hardware like printers), usually in the same building. All recent computers come with Ethernet connection hardware as standard. Traditional 'wired' Ethernet uses multi-wire cables such as Cat5. Growing in popularity is 'wireless' Ethernet, better known as Wi-fi. Ethernet is defined in IEEE standard 802.15.3.
