Coaxial cable (sometimes called coax cable) is a species of copper cable where the data is carried down a thick central conductor, surrounded by a thin mesh conductor for noise shielding. Coaxial cable will be familiar to many people as their TV aerial cable, but coax can be used to transmit digital data too. It is no longer used in home or office networks, but people who use "cable internet" services will be accessing the Internet via the same coaxial cable that transmits their cable television.
