What is a Cat5?
Cat5 is short for Category 5. This is a standard kind of data cable made of two twisted copper pairs. Cat5 is widely used in Ethernet networks; as it can support the full range of speeds used in most Ethernet networks, Cat5 has become ubiquitous in the home and office. Category 1,2,3 and 4 existed beforehand, the numbers representing increases in reliability and carrying capacity.
